Melis and Marcus’s destination wedding at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm is one for the books! A mix of cultural traditions, a lavish party and loads of emotion. Not to mention a gorgeous bride and a very dapper groom.
This bride and groom picked Stockholm and Grand Hotel for their destination wedding for a few different reasons. Mainly because the bride is half Swedish but also because Stockholm is such a beautiful city. They felt positive that guests coming in from all corners of the world would love it as much as they do. Our bride and groom reside in England traveled over to Stockholm several times to plan their wedding and with Stockholm being a rather small city, planning was easy for them.
We are beyond thankful we got to witness and photograph their union. With four different nationalities, Swedish, Turkish, Indian and English, they made sure to embrace all of the different cultures. Thank you, Melis & Marcus, for the trust and tremendous honor in having me document your day. I feel incredibly blessed to have been chosen as your wedding photographer! / Isabelle
From the bride: We began our wedding festivities with an Indian themed welcome party, and we incorporated English wedding traditions and music to the ceremony, Turkish poetry readings and favours bought from the bazaar in Istanbul…and the beautiful Stockholm was the perfect backdrop to our special day. With guests from over 26 different nationalities, and 30 if you include where some guests travelled from, we wanted our wedding to be a celebration of these different nationalities, cultures and religions, and to remind us all that we overcome these differences for two things: friendship and love.
Stockholm wasn’t a hard decision. Being half Swedish, it’s a second home for me (the bride) but what was so incredible is how quickly Marcus fell in love with it and became his second home too. So we loved the idea of our friends falling in love with it too. Guests had plenty of time over the weekend to explore Stockholm, and we were delighted to hear that everyone was just as enchanted by this cool, and beautiful city as we are! Thankfully it is easy and convenient for many of our friends to fly to as well!
We are very lucky that our gorgeous venue, Grand Hotel needs no introduction, theme or colour scheme – the two rooms, Vapensalen and Spegelsalen are stunning enough. So really, everything that we added was to compliment the beauty of the rooms. We kept it simple – gold lettering on the Order of Service, and white flowers for example.
Favourite moment of the day? Every detail and every moment was a favourite! The excitement of getting ready, imagining what each other’s vows will be, the intimate and quiet moment we shared while doing our portrait session, hearing the wonderful words spoken by our friend during the ceremony – making us both laugh, and cry, declaring our vows while being surrounded by our loved ones in the beautiful Vapensalen, all the speeches during the dinner and of course dancing the night away in the incredible Spegelsalen felt like a dream! But I think it was the intimacy and romantic setting of our ceremony that really stood out for us. We felt so overwhelmed by all the love from our family and friends, and seeing all their faces looking back at us, well… that is probably the best feeling in the world.
We felt so unbelievably lucky and the whole day was simply perfect.
We are so grateful to 2Brides for documenting every moment so brilliantly so we can relive the day over and over again.
