I have always dreamed of shooting at Bjertorp. It’s one of the most fantastic wedding venues in the whole of Sweden.

The lovely couple chose to have a destination wedding in Sweden, which was a natural choice since it is only a 3-hour journey from Oslo to the venue. They were enamored with the location and decided to extend the wedding day into a weekend, so they could spend quality time with their loved ones.

I first met with this stunning couple in Kongsvinger, Norway last year and shot their engagement photos. Check out the session here. We had an excellent time together, and I loved how easy going they were. M + S pretty much laughed and had fun with me during the entire session.

Planning a destination wedding in Sweden

Planning a destination wedding in Sweden is easier than you might think. I have a couple of tips for you if you are considering tying the knot in our beautiful kingdom. First off, a destination wedding in Sweden can be held all year round. Although most people will say that summer is best for a destination wedding. However, I’ve photographed destination weddings in Sweden during winter, spring, summer, and fall and they have all been truly striking and unique. The bonus of having a destination wedding in Sweden during the slow season is that everything will be much cheaper. The cost of venue and accommodation is practically fifty percent less than during in-demand dates during the summer.

Golden Light

Anyways, when it was time for their wedding day we were so pleased to indulge in marvelous weather and sublime golden light. The weather this summer has been less than great, so we were thrilled to enjoy a warm and sunny day finally. We had a splendid sunset session with them just before the sun was setting, at around 9 in the evening. The best light of the day is during the golden hour, and in Sweden, during June, it’s that late. But boy was it worth it!

The couple pretty much planned their destination wedding by themselves with a little help from family members and of course the staff at their venue. Perhaps my favorite memory of the day was when the bride had the veil put on, an heirloom veil worn by many women in her family before her. The veil was made from the most delicate silk lace and several meters long. Just dazzling!

We also need to mention dinner. Instead of just eating and perhaps listening to a few speeches, the party started early. With guest singing and literally dancing on the tables and chairs, there wasn’t a quiet moment the entire evening. It was a blast being a part of this astounding occasion and to photograph this incredibly elegant destination wedding Sweden!
